Times New Roman is equivalent to Times, and New York is somewhat similar ( ).

The presence of both Times and New York fonts, though, indicates that the document may have originated on a Mac. Times is a font that's sometimes provided by a printer's read-only memory or packaged with the printer's drivers. (ThereĪre some arcane rules for how Word picks which font to use as the substitute, but Times New Roman is common.) It's nonsense, of course, but Word accepts it because you might later open theĭocument on a computer that actually has a font named Asdfg.īut if I now go to Office button > Word Options > Advanced, scroll down to the "Show document content" section, and click the Font Substitution button, that dialog shows that the font Asdfg is missing, and Word has substituted Times New Roman for it. If I then press Enter in normal text or add a new row to a table where Asdfg is applied, then the new paragraph or row will continue to report that its font is Asdfg. For example, I can type asdfg into the font box, and Word will tell me that a font named Asdfg is applied to How do I go about getting the Times font so that I can select it from the Font drop-down menu ?Īs Graham tried to explain, Word's Font dialog will report any font name that anyone types into the font box, whether that font exists or not. Shouldn't it be there if it sees other rows of text as being written in Why can't I select Times from the font drop-down menu ? The font box says that the font is Times. I do not find Times in the list, just Times New Roman, but if I click on any other cell in the table If I hi-lite the text written in Times New Roman 10 in the cell, and then go to the Font drop-down menu, The row in the table is now in Times New Roman 10, while the other rows in my table are in I cut a row from another document written in the Times New Roman 10 fontĪnd paste it into my table that has been using the Times font. If I select any cell in the table MS Word says that I am using Times 10 for the Font and Font size. It is a table holding alphabetic text, not numbers. I have a document written in the Times font. I am using MS-Office Home & Student edition 2007.
